Layer It On

I find layers to be awe-inspiring. Okay, perhaps I wouldn’t really use such a strong adjective, but really I do love them. This love mainly stems from the fact that I couldn’t be bothered to join a gym all year, and well, when you live on a college campus the stress eating and ease of access to junk food simply pours the pounds on ‘ya.

So to be honest, I like layers not only because they create chic-as-hell silhouettes but also because they serve my flab-hiding needs well. Enter Gemma Degara. One day while at my internship my boss makes a rather excited noise and motions me to her monitor. What I see is this:

I’m excited to say that she plans on carrying them soon, and that I couldn’t be more excited. Crazy cuts and draping? Model randomly standing on a wooden box in a barn? Awesome. More so awesome for the clothing design, but whatever :)

Since then I’ve been doing a little sleuthing and peeking into GD’s past collections. I think it's safe to announce that she is now my newest favorite and most coveted designer. I say this because right now I want every piece I see in her Dripbook. The Barcelona-raised Gemma Degara has been designing since 2003. Her creations have a 180˚ quality about them; you can wear them whichever way you see fit, as long you like how it looks (any side can be the front). I’m definitely all for wearing the same clothing six different ways, especially if they have this much structure and impeccable design.

Soak it in! She has her own Etsy store, so I’m going to try to get my hands on this dress, wish me luck!
